Going to Uni to retrain as a paramedic

Hiya, not sure if this board is for adults retraining but I thought it was the most appropriate!

I'm 28 with a 1yr old DS, I am planning to quit my job and go to uni next September (providing I get the relevant credits from my access course!)

Has anyone else ever left a full time career to go to university? I've never been before so will qualify for all the loans, bursaries etc

I need some help with the maintenance loan, from the gov.uk calculator they are asking for our household income for the previous year which will be x amount meaning I won't get the full amount - will they take into consideration that I am leaving my job to study and therefore our previous years income effectively means nothing?

Hope this makes sense!

Hi! You need to apply for finance with last years income, and then you can request it to be adjusted if your income has changed by 15% or more - which I imagine it will if you’re leaving your job.

You should be entitled to maintenance loan and any bursaries or scholarships the university offers. I don’t believe paramedic science is a course which qualifies for the NHS bursary.

@Stillabitemo ah thank you! Yes Paramedic Science defintely qualifies for a 5k bursary and upto 2k more if you have dependants.
