What income do I declare for Student Finance for Uni application?

Before I get flamed I am in no way trying to hide any income. I have none to hide! I've just filled in the student finance forms for my 19 yr old daughter starting uni in September and am unsure if I've done it correctly. It asked about other dependants. I have 2 younger sons who are 14 & 15. I get maintenance from their dad but I haven't declared it anywhere. Not sure if I should have!?? All replies gratefully received Smile

My understanding is that you must provide details of your household’s taxable income. So yours and any partner’s if they live with you even if they aren’t the other parent. Child maintenance isn’t taxable so isn’t included.

Maintenance for an ex is not considered as taxable income so does not count.
If I remember correctly each section has boxes which you can refer to for advice, or else you can contact them directly if you are unsure.
You only support the application if your daughter lives with you full time
Hope this helps.

If it's household income do we have to include my older ds's income as well as dp's and mine?
He's 22 and works full time.

No, @Snozzlemaid, it’s the income of the parent or parents supporting their child (the student) and your live in partner or spouse if divorced from the child’s parents. Not their siblings. And taxable income as well, so if you charge your 22 yo rent, that’s not included either.

Or it could be the student’s own partner if they were living together.

Phew! Thanks Millicent. Suddenly panicked that his income would be included too.

Yes, I’m hoping DS2 might have a job next year as well. 🤞
