Erasmus - study abroad 20/21 Germany - anyone else ?

Hi, My DC has been offered a place abroad in Germany from Oct 2020 for physics.
I worry about what will happen if Erasmus is pulled after Jan 21 ? The thoughts we have had from tutor is that it should be okay.

Will the government will honour placements which have already started.

Does anyone else have this concern / dilemma?

A lot of unis are guaranteeing the exchange for next year or two.

I think the issue is finance. The place will be there, but there won't be funding. When I did an Erasmus year I got 800 ecu grant which wasn't a massive amount but very useful. I don't know how much it is now but I'd suggest you assume no (extra) money for that year. Take into account that the cost of living in Germany is generally higher than in the UK, especially if the £ drops any more.

Thank you both for your replies.

There is an update on the Erasmus+ site today which states that uk will continue to participate in current programme (2014/2020).
Students/ participants can continue to study abroad for the duration of the exchange even if it runs beyond 2020 and the end of the transition period.

So I hope this is a good sign.

I do not know about grants but I will look into that.

Dd1 goes this time, she’s been told they’re fine for Erasmus for her year.

My DS is there at the moment as a postgrad, did an undergrad year too. Grasp it while the remnants of the scheme are still there, it's a wonderful thing!

I hope they'll renew the scheme! My ds is due to start a 4 year course (with the 3rd year in Europe) in 2020!

Dd2 is too. Not confident in her getting it though.

Completely up in the air for students who start a degree this September with a year abroad planned for 2022-23.
