Anyone had student move out then move back home?

Dc has spent 3rd year abroad and is moving home soon. Goes to uni in home town. Am looking forward to him coming home but he's moving back as an independent adult, into mum's house, with mum cooking etc etc

Not that I want to cook but I end up doing everything I've ever done

It's a very small house too, younger siblings here too, all crushed in

Any advice?

Say that when he's had a few days to recover from his adventures, you'll look at some flats with him and lend / give him the deposit?

Where did he live in first and second year?

At home. And I don't have money for a deposit so that's out. We'll see how it goes.

Not as such, but my 20 year old comes back every holiday. It's slightly different in that I want to cook for her, although she tends to cook for us once a week or so now.

She lapses back into her old routine and chores. But her chores were largely around being self sufficient anyway (clean own room, sort own washing out), or helping with communal stuff like clearing after supper. Plus odd jobs I tend to leave both dcs

We don't have house rules as such, and haven't had since sixth form, other than tell us if you don't need supper, and if you end up staying out let us know. And no random strangers staying over - just friends. But we're pretty easy going so it works.

They always come home for long stretches in the summer when you get into a new routine.
DS1 came home for a year while he did teacher training. He was working very long hours and so only at home in the evenings and generally working in his room.
Financially he had student loan and I didn't charge him rent just fed him.

My 21 year old soon to graduate and move back home to start work. We’ll be having a word about house rules. And I’ve already told him he will be feeding himself!

My friend got an old caravan in the garden, it didn't have to go anywhere just serve as a bedroom. It was only a terrace with smallish back yard.

My ds moved home after he graduated.
Don't see him much, tbh. It is fine. Bit of reminding of noise levels, as his timing is now very different from the family's. But he works, he goes out, he stays at his gf's she stays here. He tends to feed himself mostly. Tbf, his housemates at University trained him pretty well.

My 3 older children all moved back home after univsersity. In the case of my daughters that was because they did 2 years of law school in London so I was very much behind that and their brother then became his much younger twins;' after school carer - he collected them from schol every day etc and indeed worked for me for 3 hours a day so in our case it all worked fine and the older 3 have all bought their own places now, work etc.

However I haven;'t cooked their evening meal for years and my son cooked for his 2 brothers for years (their evening meal every night etc) so having him home was easier not harder for me as I work full time.

I think it is hard to generailse as every family set up is different.
