Grants/Funding/Bursaries available for lone parents in higher education

I am asking this question on behalf of a friend.

She is a lone parent and is due to start a university course in sciences in October.

She is wondering if there are any bodies or special funds which she is able to apply to for funding additional to what she will receive from the state. She hasn't got a computer and would love to be able to have one to use at home because obviously her contact time at uni will be limited due to childcare. I have made her available of charities but a search hasn't really turned up that much in that direction.

If any one else has any info to share about bodies they've applied to for grants/burdsaries for lone parents in full time higher education it would be very much appreciated.

if you put some relevant keywords for instance the name of your type of course into net and then bursaries or funding etc it will bring stuff up, there are masses of untapped funds out there, just sitting waiting for people to realise - also if she asks at the Learning Resource centre/ Library/ whatever they're calling it this year at uni they should be able to help her.
