University of Essex or University of Hertfordshire or maybe another suggestion?

Hello,

Could anyone please tell me which uni is better or suggest another on that's localish to these.

DD wants to do biological science(s) and thinks these 2 are an option. I think she prefers Essex. Doesn't have much of an opinion on Hertfordshire but says it's nice. Any other suggestions that are localish? She wants to move out, but not be too far from home (which is in Brentwood, Essex).

I just want to say right now that somewhere like Durham isn't for DD.

Her predictions are BBC.

I went to Essex though did an Arts subject. I had a blast. It's small and campus (lovely campus too tho ugly buildings!) and that meant it felt quite intimate. Social life was excellent. That was a long time ago but I believe it still has a similar atmosphere.

Don't know anything about Herts, but Essex is very nice. It's a fairly small campus university, lots of activities, facilities, academic standards are high, they put you through your paces. Quite a few home students - so not all in halls. It has the vibe of a mini cosmopolitan village - I loved my years there, really loved them.

UEA, Essex, Herts in that order.

I would also consider Reading. I know it’s a bit further and would be aspirational as they want BBB but they may be flexible. Also see if Kent has something suitable. The Royal Veterinary College also does Biogical Science. Check if this is the Potters Bar site in Hertfordshire.

This subject is huge and has lots of options at different universities (with differing ucas codes) so she really should consuder where her interest(s) lies and marry that to a course. Although she may not have views on that as yet. Course content and possible year in industry are definitely worth considering regarding employability as she’s not top tier academically. If she looks like getting better grades, (ABB) consider the University of Surrey.

My older son went to Reading and I would recommend it too.
A list in order of Surrey, Reading, UEA (or is UEA above Reading?), Essex, Herts might be the right kind of priorities. In fact those could be the 5 UCAS choices and see which she can get into.

Would also suggest looking at UEA. They have an open day on October 20th and a 'mini open day' on the 26th. I haven't visited Essex, but DD has been there a couple of times and definitely prefers UEA. She is applying for International relations and French, but her older brother applied there for Biochemistry (although eventually firmed Birmingham). Norwich is obviously rather further than Colchester, but not too bad from the A12.

I think Essex is a bit isolated. Norwich has better social opportunities if you don’t want to be stuck on the campus. Reading is lively. I agree with Xenia re the ucas list. However look at RVC. It’s well regarded but presumably the course has a narrower focus than some so it has to appeal.

Hope you don't mind me jumping on your thread OP but ds in similar situation but wants to study Computer science, same grade predictions.
We're stealing the list from here but noticed Reading are asking for AAB-ABB for CS. Is there a any point adding them? do they ever offer lower it seems quite high for Reading if you don't mind me saying, its offer is higher than Loughborough (ABB) which seems a bit odd in my opinion.
