Congratulations to all those who have received their results today :)

My DD is off to Uni of Liverpool and I want to make her a little survival kit, just a novelty thing to take with her. I was thinking of Paracetomol, can of red bull, Costa voucher, Greggs voucher...but can anyone think of anything else to add?

Don't want to spend a lot as she's already fleecing us for every penny Grin thanks!

As per Singasong - it's not as lovely to hear , but make sure DCs have had Men ACWY vaccinations. Free of charge at GPs ( well Ds's was ) - the various strains of Meningitis are very rare but potentially very serious - so well worth a trip to local practitioner. I say this because I was reminded when DS went to university 3 yrs ago and I think it is sensible.

Other than that - nail clippers Grin , little medicine thing - i.e. lemsip nurofen etc

On previous threads , people have suggested condoms. I asked my son in his second year , and he said - don't bother , you can't move for the bloody things. Apparently when he went to the college launderette he had to move a load of condoms off the top to put his washing on top of the machine. I cannot speak for all universities but he reckoned at his they were sprayed around like smarties, i.e. distributed by the welfare committee. Though I suppose a personal stash would not go amiss Grin

Kitchen roll. serves as all purpose mopper upper and a tea towel at times. Ds has had people coming to see him to borrow kitchen roll .

All best wishes and good luck to all your DCs

When I left for uni, my mum gifted me a small tool set. Hammer, pliers, nails, stuff for hanging things on walls, etc. It was pink and came in a small tool box. I thought it was naff..... However, it proved a pretty popular and useful thing around the dormatory. Others would come around asking to borrow it. Had it for years....

We got a brilliant over-the-door multi- coat -hook thing from ikea. There is never enough storage. Make sure they take thinner bath towels not new fluffy ones - quicker drying, and far less space and £££ at the launderette.

Command by 3M make hooks and picture and poster stickers that hold up quite heavy stuff but come off walls leaving no marks (if removed correctly) -- great for decorating room...

List of family members' birthdays, phone numbers and home addresses (ok we have a lot of family on DH's side and they really mind if birthdays are ignored!). Possibly I should add stamps but he'll just email anyway.

Thanks to PP for doorstop idea -- adding to my list!

I gave black plastic sacks, washing up liquid, washing powder sachets, 2 knives and 2 forks from home, one of our cups and a plate (they were in halls last year) and a glass just from home. We don't tend to take any pills so no head achev stuff or medicines and if they really have to drink alcohol they can buy their own. I would not dream of giving them contraceptives (I graduated a teetotal virgin with law prizes.... it paid off big time).
