...whats the best way around this? Ask now or wait for results?

Now I would have thought. Do their web sites have advice?

Has he had a look here?

www.ucas.com/deferred-entry

DD had a vague idea a few weeks back that she might like to defer and start in 2020 instead of 2019 and my memory is that there was some fairly helpful advice on the Bristol site. No idea about Leeds, though.

My ds who went to liverpool and ended up coming home half way through said looking back he would have liked to take a year off whilst deciding, recconds the school put way too much pressure on him to go straight to uni.

I can’t remember my DDs school ever recommending when they started university. I think students and parents have to weigh up the advantage or disadvantage of starting or deferring. It’s not necessary to be a lemming!

Thanks for that link it is very helpful. He will need to make the calls so see what their position is one way or another.

My concern is that is he misses his offer by a grade he might get in for 2018 but if he dropped a grade on a deferred place he might be rejected in August.....am I being realistic?
