How often is your uni child home?

If they live at a uni 200 miles away?

If they do come home for a weekend, is it just a weekend or 4 or 5 days?

Mine is a stepson but 200 miles away or so. Doesn't come here often - last time was over the summer when he was here for a few weeks. DH and I have been up there recently for a weekend. He's almost finished there (will finish in December) and his life is up there now. Would be nice to see a bit more of him but we hear from him a lot and is all all right.
If he did come down for a weekend would probably be a long one although we go up there for a Saturday- Sunday weekend

I have 2 DS at Uni-Completely different experiences.

DS1 is only about 65 miles away-he is home often too often for me to have time to miss him he comes home to work, go to the football with DH, see friends from school etc.

DS2 is 300 miles away. He does a sport to a very competitive level-he went in mid August and will probably be home around December 22 for Christmas (that's when he came home last year) and only had a little over a week at home. Had 2 days at Easter. We do go see him watch him compete. I definitely have time to miss DS2!!

I would think the ideal would be somewhere in between-hopefully will get that with DD....

My DD2 is in 2nd year at uni 350 miles away. She doesn’t come home for weekends just at holidays. In fact she was away all summer working abroad so we have seen her for 3 days since June. We dropped her off in September and we will see her at Christmas. Then she is going away for a lot of Easter on a ski trip. She is enjoying life. I have no expectations.

Son 220 miles away: we go up once a term. Sometimes he comes back on another weekend, but not every term by any means.

Daughter 80 miles away: we’ve been up once this term and she is home for a reading week, or five days of it. She may come back for a school reunion thing one night as well.

DD 140 miles away, she doesn't come home at all in term time, we go down and watch any shows she's in (lots of extra-curric drama.) Will art and see what DD2 does in September.

Same distance. First year home a lot. Took a while to settle.
Subsequent years, long holidays and once or twice in the long terms, usually to coincide with an event of some kind.

For the first 2 years both my sons mostly came home a weekend a month, so their was someone here virtually every couple of weeks. Occasionally my eldest would be here for a very long weekend. Not sure if they actually came to see me or the pets.

My DD is at uni overseas. Flew out on 11 August, back 21 December. They don't get a reading week.

My DD always came home for reading week and met up with school friends who seemed to be doing the same! Occasionally came home for parties in the year everyone was 21 and that was from the year aboard! Generally though, it wasn’t very often.

DS is 151 miles away and hasn't been home since he left on 16th Sept. We were going to go and visit for his birthday in a few week's time but he says he'll come home that weekend - clearly we are too embarrassing to meet his new mates! He says he doesn't have reading week.

ds1 is at uni only 2.5 hrs away, 3 by train. Has never come home during term time. Ds2 is only 15 miles away, but won't come home term time.

It's not that they don't like us, but terms are short and they are very busy with extra-curric commitments, as well as serious study.

30 yrs ago, I very rarely went home too..

200 miles away, main hols only. She’s having waaay too much fun to come home!
Eldest was similar and didn’t come home either. Just too expensive by train too.

4 & a half hours away, dd not been home & not planning to until Christmas.Working hard and has no reading week.Having way too much of a good time to come back.Face times on Sundays & sends random pics of food amongst other things.She misses the cat & us in that order!

Youngest coming home this weekend for 4 nights as she’s had a reading week (and I suspect she wants some winter clothes). She usually joins us in Bath when we hire a house so we can see MIL for a couple of nights each half term too. Her eldest brother usually visits her for a night if he’s in Plymouth.
Other student is a medic so doesn’t get same time off and is older. She generally pops to Birmingham flat when we are there and stays a couple of nights with us and assorted siblings. Usually twice a term. She doesn’t tend to come home much outside of holidays unless there’s a special event here - granny’s birthday, lots of them managing to get time off together so can all be here, that sort of thing.

Ds is 350 miles away (7hrs by road or train);we dropped him off for freshers week at very beginning of September and won't see him till term finishes on 10th Dec
He did have a reading week a fortnight ago but visited gf in Oxford instead of coming home
He's the youngest of 3 and I guess has been used to not seeing his siblings at home very much while they're at uni either ( both over 3 hrs away)
We had hoped to visit him at end of November to do a bit of Christmas shopping and make a weekend of it for us but I'm too ill to travel at the moment

this term DD went up three weeks early, came home for 5 days (as we had a special house guest) and she'll be home mid December

Only see ds for the holidays, and didn't see him last Easter as he stayed at uni to write his dissertation. No reading weeks for his course, either on the BA, or now the MA. He is in UK, we aren't, so will be driving back to pick him and my Mum up for Christmas.

Ds is 100 miles away. He has been home once this term and won’t be home again until the end of term. He probably only came home once because I was had to drive near his Uni on a Friday afternoon and offered to pay for his train fare back on Sunday if he came home with me for the weekend.

Not at all. He's at Oxford and he's too busy working to even consider it. He seems happy when I see him on Skype though, so all good as far as I can tell.
