Only child is fixated on VFX degree but is following a standard academic path. We recognise that the potential is good, but how good does a candidate need to be?

I don't know about VFX but in my daughters specialism all degree offers came after interview. There are often easier courses to get offers from but the best courses are likely to be competitive.

It won't just be how good the student is now, they will be assessing the potential and the fit with their course in particular.

I'd recommend uni open days and get the student to talk to the lecturers and students.

I'd recommend open days too. My dd is looking at Edinburgh Art College for her first choice and then Dundee and Glasgow. Edinburgh's acceptance rates are around 6% 😱 for art/fine art so well worth investing a bit of time to find out what the admissions folks will be looking for.
