Oxbridge applicants 2018

I've hesitated before making this thread as I don't really like the whole making Oxbridge out as a special case when there are lots of amazing universities that are just as good for individual courses. However, it is a different application process with a lot happening by January should they get that far and irl I don't know anyone else's dc applying to talk to them about it. I expect most of us are in that situation. At the moment I rely on dd and the occasional foray into student room to learn what happens next.

So welcome all parents of Oxbridge candidates - a thread to chat over what's to come and to support if our kids find they have to steer in a different direction.

Application forms due in in a few weeks

I don’t know if they write or email to say they were unsuccessful. Must be one or the other.

I think I’d combust with anxiety if dd had left things to the last moment. Difficult if teachers aren’t cooperating.

DS is going to London tonight and have the interview at Imperial tmr! Wish him good luck!

DD has managed to triple book herself this evening at various school and EC events. So I’m spending my evening taxiing from one to another so she can try to squeeze in a bit of each.
For somebody who is usually so good at self organisation she’s dropped some clangers this week!

oh no Lobster! There’s so much to think about, it’s not surprising it goes pear shaped sometimes. I feel like I’ve turned into dds pa recently and she is normally very self sufficient and independent.

So ds got an offer from Exeter today which was quick! He has now got offers from all of his choices except Obviously the C word!!

Word has it that Catz, Cambridge has started giving out maths interview dates.

Eek. It's slowly happening....

My DS also got an offer from Exeter following interview last Saturday. He's also received offers from Manchester & Bristol. Stil waiting to hear from Birmingham & Oxford following PAT last Thursday - he's not holding out much hope for Oxford as found the aptitude test impossible.
just needs to get those grades now!!!

Yes DS managed himself to find accommodation from his classmate’s elder sister in London and going from school to London together with that classmate as they both have interviews on Nov 9. I’m happy that DS is so independent now, as I’m an overseas mum!

He also got follow up email from Sheffield finally offered him free accommodation so that he can attend their open day and interview. In fact we prefer a Skype interview with Sheffield as it’s not DS’ priority choice TBH, but the school seems very sincere and keen in meeting him in person, so he would probably make his 4 hours (per) trip there after getting approval from his housemaster!

Congrats Str4nge and Jabbott!! DS also received an Exeter offer yesterday so he has two offers so far. Still waiting to hear from Imperial following his interview, and Durham - but I don't think he'll hear from them for some time.

Good News on the Sheffield interview Rissotto - I love Sheffield, would have been my favourite for DD I think but they don’t do the right course for her unfortunately.

We’re still waiting to hear from Durham too - DD says from talking to older friends she doesn’t expect anything from them until March! Same with St Andrews.

The essays have finally been sent! Hooray! I might manage to sleep tonight now!

Anyone who ends up in Exeter, I am here so can help with any info needed.
