Will DS1 pay for dentist fees now?

18 years old, left Sixth Form in June and going to University in September. He has a dentist appointment next week, I am assuming he has to pay now?

How about prescriptions?

I think dentist and prescriptions are still free until 31 August?

Yes, I've just squeezed dds last dental check in for next week.

That would make sense. I have been looking online but can't find the right info. or I am looking in the wrong place possibly.

But once they are at Uni they pay for Prescriptions and the dentist?

Dd had her meningitis jab last week.
Oddly her oyster/zip card lasts until end of September, so no bus fares to pay until then.
Will also have to pay for glasses!

Is the glasses till 31st August too?

Our dentist do a student discount its not much but something but yy squeeze his checkups in before September

You can get prescriptions free for the 1st year of uni and after that he pays ... you can also get the additional years free but there's a form you have to fill out and it's about 60 pages long ... I don't know anyone who bothered tbh

If they offer a student discount then they must be private. NHS fees can't be discounted so don't go on the promise of a discount and end up paying more!

In Wales, NHS dental treatment is free if under 19 and in Full Time Education
In Wales under 25 get free exams but would pay for any NHS treatment
you can get a HC2 certificate form from job centre which may give you full or partial help towards treatment depending on income /savings

Not in Wales sadly.

No sparkling. I graduated last year and it was the same as @Theweek says ... I'm in England and it was free under 19 in full time education ... including 1st year of uni prescriptions

It was automatic - didn't fill anything in

Up to 19 in full time education it's automatic so get in there with eye tests and dentist.
After that it's means tested and you have to fill in a form HC1. They take into account money from parents as well as savings so we didn't bother for either DC.

Hmmm - DS3 had to pay for a dental check up a few weeks ago. He's 18 and has just left school so I thought he would be ok.

I did query but they were adamant he had to pay.

I might ring the dentist and ask-see what they say.

Meanwhile he has his meningitis jab this afternoon. That didn't go down well but no time like the present and I was just passing the doctors...
