In panic - why has DS's maintenance loan reduced for the second year?

Reposting from chat at someone's suggestion:

In bit of a panic.

DS just finished first year at university. Doing history, standard BA Hons 3 years.

In first year he got £5092 maintenance loan. This coming year he is only getting £3928. Nothing in our circumstances or finances has changed, so I don't understand it. Any ideas? I read that it is reduced in the third year so I thought there had been a mistake maybe, but the correspondence clearly says Year 2.

They seem to make it up as they go along. I got different amounts each year and very little had changed in my circumstances.
Sfe are an absolute nightmare.

did when your DS request the income based additional maintenance loan when he put in his second year finance application. Might be worth double checking. Have you had an email asking for your income for the previous year from SF to calculate how much maintenance loan he's entitled to?i
