Anyone with a child at St Andrews?

Further to the finance thread I wondered if anyone has experience of study at St Andrews? How much did you pay for accommodation? DS is saying it can be £9000 and you get allocated without much choice. Also how much money do you think he'd need each month if in self catering halls? Have your children worked at all? Are there jobs in such a small town?

Thanks for any help.

There are some jobs...but realistically for the free time he will have he is looking at bar or evening hotel work. It's quite competitive as everyone is looking for a job.

In can be cheaper to live in Dundee and travel. There are also more opportunities for jobs.

I understand this is a very late reply, and I apologise if it is no longer of use.

I recently visited with a prospective student, and a great many of shops, bars, restaurants were advertising for part time staff. Ee, 10 hours a week. I have noticed that tesco and the post office had a few jobs suitable going there. On top of that, the university employed lots and lots of ambassadors for open days. The students I spoke to, all said that work was fairly straight forward to come across.
