Has anybody done one of those distance learning proofreading courses that promise wonderful earnings?

Just wondered if they are too good to be true.

Most publishers have a regular stable of freelancers who they outsource proofreading to - often ex-employees (that's if it isn't done in house). I personally would not recommend distance learning courses.

Thanks, I thought that would be the case.

my sister-in-law did one. No job came of it, despite promises from a friend in publishing.
