Open Days AND Applicant Days AND Interviews?

So, DS1's offers are starting to come in. Great.
We went to 5 open days and now he's got an interview at one and an applicant day (along with an offer, not dependent on going to applicant day) at another.

Is this the norm? I honestly did not expect to go back to all 5 of them!

Applicant days are common here in Scotland where many offers are unconditional. It's worth going to them if you are seriously considering the uni as you often spend more time in the department and can think seriously about whether or not you can live there and ask more questions about the course content. My kids found they had more time at applicant days, plus fewer parents asking all the questions.
I see no reason not to go to your first choice uni, plus second choice if firm and fallback options.
