Who else has DC approaching Uni finials? Graduations to hopefully celebrate?

I was on the first empty nest threads with my DD, and now my DS is approaching his final weeks!

Anyone else with finals looming? How are your DC coping? Do you have their timetables like when it was A levels too?

I must say, I am so proud of DS for his work ethic and the hours he spends in the library each term. I truly hope he gets the grades he deserves. He needs a 2.1 for his job offer.

That's the next thing, trying to find accommodation for a new job is worse than Uni halls, having to maybe share with total strangers in a professional share etc as no way can they afford London prices on new entrant salaries (unless you are my friends DD who got stupidly high wage offers from Google and Amazon! DS is very fortunate to have a job offer, but the wages are not in the skyhigh bracket :) )

After he graduates I will have a totally empty nest as both didn't return after Uni.

Will you be buying a new outfit for the Graduation day?

My DS is also hurtling towards finals - he's (hopefully) on course for a 2:1, and seems pretty relaxed about the whole thing. His calmness under pressure has been the same throughout his academic career. He's got a grad job lined up, and he can't wait to start. He'll be moving out, and he assures us he won't be back - and I'm OK with that,as the last 4 years (he's at uni in Scotland) have gradually eased us into his final departure.

It has been lovely to see him grow up at uni and become self sufficient. During his first term he was pretty hopeless, not really able to look after himself, and consequently he was quite poorly.

We'll be despatching DD to uni in Sept, so truly an empty nest! It will be quiet, but I'm looking forward to the next stage of our relationships with our lovely children.

Oh, and I bought a dress about 3 years ago, and haven't had an opportunity to wear it yet, so that's being rolled out for graduation day. Hotel & restaurant booked, and looking forward to it! I have been banned from wearing a hat though!

I envy you with hotel booked. We will have just got back from holiday so just doing this on a (long) day trip.
Glad to hear your DS also has a grad job. Did he intern last Summer too?

Miliiboy is hoping to go on holiday this summer as worked all through the last 2 so not had a holiday for 3 years. Waiting to see what his friends can all arrange.

Hope you are planning some good stuff to do when your nest is empty too in the Autumn. We got a Motorhome!!

The invite to ds's graduation ceremony arrived last week along with the details of the company hiring out the gear - it didn't mention anything about being able to buy it. He's allowed 2 guests - dh will probably stay behind to look after ds2 and I will go with either ds3 or one of the dgp.

Lectures finished a few weeks ago and no exams so its just a question of finishing the dissertation and hitting the deadline on a couple of essays. He's aiming for a first but will be more than happy with a 2:1 No firm decisions about September yet - he has an interview next month for a grad scheme and has put in a couple of applications to do a masters.

Are any of your DC's graduations being held in exciting places? Back in the day, I remember thinking pictures of Kent Uni graduating from Canterbury Cathedral looking spectacular.

Well we had DDs in Cambridge which will take some beating. Not sure yet of the building where DS will be but they have some great architecture in Manchester.

DS has 4 peppers to sit, but no dissertation which he is more than happy with. A degree without essays was his perfect fit :) (Maths)

Are posh frocks mandatory? We have graduation this autumn (albeit a year late) and I pretty much never wear a dress, but thinking I'm going to have to for this aren't I? Additional stress is that we will be meeting ds's girlfriend's parents for the first time too.

Yes DD graduates this June. She is on course for a first if she can maintain focus and I'm especially proud as she was a clearing student three years ago. She has an offer from King's College London to study for a Master's - not sure whether she will accept this though.

Posh frock not mandatory but def need something smart for photos :)

Thank you Milliways, well done to your DS too. It's such a relief isn't it? DD's offer is for a 2.2! ...virtually unconditional. I definitely won't be wearing a dress!

Millie my DS will be house sharing with other grads on his scheme - his employers (don't want to say who they are in case I out myself) have been great about assigning mentors and getting a facebook page going, and they only held 1 assessment day, so he's met the other grads who will be working & studying for the same qualification. It'll be a bit like going to uni again!

To answer your question, yes, he did do an internship last summer, which was invaluable in securing the job. In the end it turned out harder to get the internship than the job - he ended up getting job offers from 2 employers, so was in the very fortunate position of being able to choose.

I'm in! DS graduates this year. The dissertation is due in today and he has just one exam at the end of May. I have a dress I have only worn once (to a wedding a couple of years ago) so will probably wear that for the graduation.

DS is planning some time out to travel next. He has some work lined up for the autumn but will probably be heading overseas after Christmas.

Very glad not to be having and DC doing Finals - the first time in five years!

Dd is in final yr of her MA in Scottish Uni...no final exams ...( all essays this year) just has dissertation to hand in next week and then she graduates in June... On track for a 2:1... No mean feat for a girl with dyslexia/dyspraxia and dyscalculia who was told by SENCO at her first high school she'd be lucky to get a few GCSEs!!
We're travelling 350 miles with ds and dd2 to see her graduate...she's then hoping to do PGCE or TEFL course and travel the world!
I'll have another 5 yrs before a totally empty nest tho.....just got to get ds through his AS/A levels....(physics, biology geography and Welsh Bac)he has no idea what he wants to do tho!

Me please?! dd finishes early May and got her dissertation back marked literally two hours ago with a First! am so proud. She thinks she is on for a 2.1 for her degree.We will be flying up to Newcastle in posh gear mid July :)

She's coming home mid May and just working in a local pub for a few months whilst she sorts out what/if her career aspirations are.... ;-)

dd just got offer to do post grad at Edinburgh!!...so pleased for her..more excuses to visit the auld country!!

Congrats to MABS dd on the first - how long did it take to get the dissertation back? ds submission is beginning of May and worth 60% of final mark so no pressure
