Masters with the OU - has anyone done one?

I am coming to the end of my BA - I'll be finished in May, fingers crossed. I have been doing it through the OU and am now contemplating a Masters. Currently undecided in subject - BA is Humanities, but I have a background in accountancy. I would rather go to a brick Uni for Masters but can't afford it.

I am a SAHM at the moment, though I am possibly returning to work part time at some point.

I'm just looking for other peoples perspectives and experience really.

I am applying for a distance learning masters with Nottingham Uni so there are other options for dl aside from the OU.

I'm also coming to the end of an OU degree, in a subject many go on to do masters then PhD in. The Ou had promised a masters this year, but it is delayed. As a result, lots of people as looking at brick unis that also offer distance masters. Prices seem to vary though. Someone said today that the one at Derby is £16.5k! Others that were mentioned included UEL and Ulster. It may be worth having a look around to see if there is one that really really appeals to you.

I have looked at Nottingham but that was £15k+. Maybe I was looking at the wrong bit. Hadn't looked at Derby, though I live fairly close, so maybe I should.

sliced - what is your subject if you don't mind me asking?

I am waiting to hear back from OU about choice of masters as isn't a humanities one and my degree will be. Plus, apparently, it also hasn't been decided yet if OU part time students will be eligible for the £10k funding.

Are we all mad Grin

I am hoping to do a part time Masters at Birkbeck, fees are no where near £15000, £3750 p.a. part time , but it is a humanity

Have you seen the big OU FB page? That's got about 11,000 students on it. Several of them will be able to let you know some inside info
I'm looking at doing an OU MSc. I looked at several local Unis but the support for SAHM & course manageability looked better staying with OU. I will have to go brick for MPhil.

I'm looking into a Masters with the OU too. My original plan was to do it p/t at our local uni bit not sure I can make that work alongside my 30 hour a week job as the uni is an over an hour away. I enquired yesterday into postgrad funding and am waiting for a call back to see if its possible - Humanities subject.

I did a Science Masters with the OU in 1999, just after they started them.
I managed to do it while working full time.
It was hard going though.

I've just finished my first module into my OU MSc & I've enjoyed it but it is hard work.
Also a SAHM & I originally started 2 modules but too much work so dropped down to one.
My tutors have been really good, one is amazing. There's regular contact, work is clearly laid out with deadlines.

Best thing I've learnt is to get ahead as my DS has had chickenpox which my tutor extended a deadline of coursework for luckily as I was a bit behind but it is manageable.

A lot of the information is on their website with module details as well & they're really quick at replying if you email.

I was aiming for 2 years but more like 4 now.
