My UCAS form was sent off earlier this week. I'm 52 and applying to do Textiles at Edinburgh, Herriot Watt, Dundee or Huddersfield. I'm excited and terrified at the same time! I've never lived on my own, so will be a huge change for me. Just getting ready to send off my digital portfolio.

Well, not got through to Edinburgh for an interview, but didn't really expect to if I'm honest. Still waiting for news from Dundee though. Managed a distinction on my bag project and just about to start the Final Major Project - this is the one we actually get assessed on.

I'm a mature student currently at uni. I remember 2 years ago going to my interviews. It was exciting and nerveracking all at once. Luckily I managed 4 out of 5 offers and chose my first choice. I love student life, much more I expect than if I had gone as a teenager, I wasn't ready then. I too did an access course and came out with 36/ 45 distinctions. I have been through some really difficult times over the last few years so I was very proud of myself. Good luck and relish every minute of the whole process. This is a new start in your I've.

Thanks Calamityjam, can I ask, did you stay in halls or rent privately? I haven't got an interview for Edinburgh, but didn't really expect to.

I have a young family so I had to apply within commuting distance from home. I am lucky that where I live, there ate many good units.

calamityjam · 06/03/2016 18:20

Unis not units

Can't believe I'm still waiting to hear from Dundee. It's not only me, another girl in my class hasn't heard from them yet either. I just want to get everything settled now.

Just to finish off this thread, I've passed my Foundation Diploma in Art & Design with a Distinction and start at Huddersfield University in September.

DumbDailyMail · 02/06/2016 00:45

That's brilliant news. You must be excited. Smile

Well Done!

SparkleSoiree · 02/06/2016 01:19

Well done on your application! I'm 44 and received 4 offers this year to read law at my fist choice this September. I did an access course for my entrance requirements and to be honest didn't think I would get through that never mind be at the stage I am today!

Good luck with it and I hope you get your first choice!

Reading this thread has inspired me to share.
I'm 48 on Wednesday with 4 DC aged between 7 and 13 and I've just applied to do an access course in health and social care starting in September with a view to studying occupational therapy at Northampton Uni in 2017. It's very scary. I've worked since I was 13 and the thought of going back to fulltime study with kids to support on my own is daunting to say the least.
Reading this about all your fantastic achievements has made me feel much more positive about everything.
Thank you Flowers

I hope this thread does serve as an inspiration to others.

Today, I found out that I will graduate with a first - to say I am elated would be a huge understatement! I am proof that, with hard work and determination, anything is possible!

Isthiscorrect · 24/06/2016 19:38

Bunny no, what fantastic news and a total vindication of your commitment and hard work. Really really well done.

Thank you, Isthis, I am feeling ridiculously proud tonight.

Not checked this thread for ages, but so much inspiration! SparkleSoiree, largerleon maybe we should set up our own support group for each other? Bunnyjo Congratulations, fantastic news.

Bunnyjo · 15/07/2016 10:30

Thank you, Ilove. I graduated yesterday and it was a wonderful day. My parents and my children were there, and I hope that I have inspired my children into believing anything is possible if you put your mind to it...

At the risk (guarantee) of outing myself I have attached a photo of our happy day!
