The Loooong story, in case you want the context/details:

I have a degree in Political Science (US based). Because of the particular institution I went to, it would be closest to a PPE degree here. I had enough "credits" for a double major in PolySci/Public Policy.

From there I went to law school but dropped out after the first year. (I should have stayed. I had a "full ride" which was very fortunate, but I was bored. A US law degree requires 3 additional years after the first 4 year BA degree.) I left to enter an international management training program for a large a European Company. Did that for three years and left to join an MBA program. Met my DH at MBA program, followed him to London and worked at a large mulitnational as a corporate middle manager until having my DC.

Just getting to the point:
If your DS goes to a respected institution, where just the fact that he gained admission and did well on the course shows intellectual acumen, then he can do a Politics degree and then enter a graduate training program with no problems.
