How is final the A level grade calculated from the AS & A2 marks/grades?

Do the A2 and AS marks/grades represent exactly 50% of the final over all A level grade awarded? And is it the actual raw scores from the AS and A2's that are averaged eg 67% + 58% or is it the overall grade band ie A grade + C grade = B grade.

Bit confused - Hope this makes sense! Do the Unis see the actual AS and A2 marks etc so that they could determine if it was a high or low B grade for instance....

I am really fed up that UMS marks count, given the amount of fiddling that went on during the GCSEs. Sad

What happens if a student takes one A2 during their AS year (this) year?

MayPolist · 30/05/2015 23:01

an A in A" requires 90% in the A2 exams*

it requires 90% of the UMS which is a different thing!

I don't think it was 'fiddling' I just think that a lot of people do not understand the standardisation process.

Bio, chem and physics def being decoupled, health and social care def not.
From memory ( ie which staff were at a particular meeting) fairly sure maths, sociology and history are also on the decoupling list.

Rosie EVERYTHING is being decoupled, just not all at once. It's being phased in over three years.

Rosieposy4 · 30/05/2015 23:29

Yes of course, i was just referring to those that are being decoupled from this sept Hmm

titchy · 30/05/2015 23:59

Ah right! Maths is the following year though.

Thank goodness we will be done by then.

Out of interest what is happening to exams set by WJEC and CIE? If they retain AS (and I understand the Welsh National Assembly has decided they should be retained) can we expect a drift towards those boards? Or a further dirft, in the private sector at least, towards pre-U.
