DD has been awarded an advocacy scholarship from one BPTC provider and a 'performance award ' from another ! She has to choose one of these providers . The scholarship was by competition and the performance award was as a result of her interview to get on the course. She also has a scholarship from an Inn of Court. The two BPTC providers are offering similar sums of money. What would look best on her CV? The scholarship or award? Our feeling is the Advocacy Scholarship, but any advice is very welcome.

She does not really have a preferred BPTC provider which is why this has become a difficult choice. Everyone has their favourite provider (usually where they have been) and no two people have the same advice!!! I think that is why she is leaning towards the BPTC provider offering the recognised scholarship and the award from the other provider appears to be aimed at getting the best students who have slipped through the net of the scholarship system at that provider. From my DDs description of the system there, she was not surprised she did not fit into what they were looking for and this has also made her think this course is maybe not for her. Their scholarship was judged by current holders of it and she felt they wanted people just like them and lacked the experience to judge the worth of different personalities and backgrounds. We didn't expect to be in this position!

Early on this morning I asked for my previous post to be deleted as it sounded negative which I didn't intend, but it still seems to be standing - sorry about that.

Are these both London providers OP? MY understanding is that two of the London providers are of roughly equal standing and if these are the two in question then I'd go for the Advocacy Scholarship. How much are each offering? Full fees or a few thousand? Your DD seems to be a strong applicant so her CV is probably strong enough already on its own merits without needing much more of a boost.

My, not MY.

I read your OP as Lego Scholarship and thought Hmm. Tired eyes.

As you were. Smile

They are both London but the scholarship offer is interesting because she understood she would no longer be eligible because of her substantial scholarship from the Inn. However, they have reviewed their policy and they are offering the title of Advocacy Scholar with a reduced sum of money. Everything is gratefully received!

I did not have the slightest problem with your previous post Molio. I have encouraged DD to look more closely at the options for study at both because there are differences. These offers are so late that it puts pressure on to decide, only a few days now!

Did she go for the Advocacy Scholarship provider OP?

Legaldoodle · 09/04/2015 00:25

She has. The on line accept/decline system failed to work so it was emails all round! Good news today is a summer long internship at a Chambers. DD is very happy with that!
