My son did the engineering one last year. one of the few Scots there. it made him decide he didn't want to go to Cambridge although he enjoyed the talks and it was a handy thing to put on his personal statement.

DS1 went on the Physics and Maths ones in Y12. Well worth the journey he loved them and they gave a good insight into studying the subjects at degree level and into applying to Cambridge.

Well worth doing.
It is great that they organise these events.

Will you have to stay overnight? I know it is a bit of a bind travelling, but you will be travelling around the country just to look at other universities. At least with these courses they get a lot out of the day.

Oxford offer similar days.

Dd2 went last month, really enjoyed it :)

Dd did an English one last year and really enjoyed it and like 2rebecca said it is good to put on their personal statement as it shows a commitment to their subject.

DS went to a maths one last year, he loved it. unfortunately he was unsuccessful when he applied to Cambridge but it was definitely a valuable experience

DD went to one last week. Loved it.

DD2 is going to Genetics in April. DD1 a law taster course at Trinity College which was brilliant. She is now first year lawSmile.

BlueStringPudding · 10/03/2015 10:54

DD did the Law one a couple of years ago, and it was quite interesting although she did come out of it saying she didn't want to do Law, and also didn't want to apply to Cambridge. So it was useful in terms of helping her work out what she did want to do, so worth doing I would say.

ds1 did 2 or 3 of these sort of things in yr12: very worthwhile. Fortunately not a trek for us, as very close.
