Continuing Roisin's thread.

I've even succumbed to TSR, having sworn I wouldn't. Still no news here and haven't heard of news from any other source in the same subject at the same college but being very uncool tbh as the reality is that rejection after an interview would be much kinder for DS than a no ab initio. Massively cheered by a late afternoon offer from Bristol though. I thought I was chilled, I'm clearly not Grin.

Fingers crossed for everyone still waiting and hoping. It's very hard to see them disappointed, is the problem :(

Good luck to everyone's dc's going for interviews today & this week!

Marni23 · 07/12/2014 09:00

What a lovely, supportive thread. I have been lurking and reading avidly as my DD is likely to be applying to Oxford this time next year.

De-lurking to wish all the DC with interviews coming up the very best of luck. I hope they all enjoy the experience.

AtiaoftheJulii · 07/12/2014 09:48

Yes, good luck to anyone travelling today xxx

cathyandclaire · 07/12/2014 10:23

Good luck to all DC travelling today and Happy Birthdays to Webwiz's DS and Figment's DD, fingers crossed for special offer-shaped birthday pressies :)

DD is off after school tomorrow, we have both read the fashion discussions with interest (so much more fun to think about than all the potential scary questions) but no decision made as yet!

One of my friends (studied at Oxford years ago) did an impromptu mock interview over supper the other evening, stressful but very helpful. Her advice was don't rush into an answer, pause to give yourself space to think and if you're really stuck ask them a question!

DD in the middle of a vile cold, so re-reading her personal statement books in bed...the advantages of doing English, what seems like a lovely lazy morning (to me, probably not to DD) is actually work!

HMF1 · 07/12/2014 10:41

DS1 flying to Stanstead tomorrow, for interviews & test on Tuesday. He will be in Cambridge by lunchtime & has arranged to meet a friend for coffee after he finishes school. I think a break from mixing with the other candidates is probably a good idea. It's his first time flying on his own so he is quite excited about that. The school have been very supportive (after being hopeless about the statement) & subject & guidance staff have been involved in mock interviews & discussing the practice tests that he did. He is their only Oxbridge candidate this year to get an interview (although there were only 2 to start with).
He is very calm about it all but is spending most of the weekend preparing.
Hope everyone's DCs do well at their interviews & that the experience whatever the outcome is a positive one.

MrsBartlet · 07/12/2014 12:11

Good luck to all and Happy 18th to webwiz and figment's dc. Luckily dd's 18th not until May so not in the middle of all of this! It is all very very real now.

RandomFriend · 07/12/2014 12:49

Have just put DD on a flight - she'll be checking in to the college later today.

Good luck to everyone travelling for interviews and to everyone celebrating 18th birthdays.

webwiz · 07/12/2014 17:35

All feeling very real now here. I've just been to that station to get DS's ticket for tomorrow to save time in the morning and he is just going to do some final reading this evening. Here's hoping for a reasonable night's sleep. Good luck everyone!

GraceFox · 07/12/2014 17:50

Been busy for a few days. Just wanted to wish everyone's dcs the very best of luck over the next week or two, especially those who have extra issues to deal with. Let's remember they have all done very well to get this far, and if offers aren't to be made, at least they'll know they've given the process their best shot. Smile

All we can do now is support, and wait. And wait...

MrsBartlet · 07/12/2014 17:56

Best of luck to him webwiz.

I agree GraceFox, they have all done so well to get this far. Dh and I were just saying how proud we are of dd regardless of what happens next. Neither of us would have got this far and we would both be bloody terrified if we had Grin

Littleham · 07/12/2014 19:11

Good luck to everyone. Smile

Don't know about you, but I'm currently in a why did she think this was a good idea phase.

RandomFriend · 07/12/2014 19:16

The waiting is agonising! DD must be there now, dinner will just be over, she will have been shown her room. I cannot help wondering how it is going.

I am hoping that she will feel like calling us a bit later.

Roisin · 07/12/2014 19:28

yup, with you there random! ds was dropped off 4 hrs ago, but not a peep from him. I may get a 1 word text: he likes to tease me.

This morning he came downstairs in an absolutely ridiculous T-shirt. I am not 100% certain whether he was deliberately winding me up or whether he was genuinely intending wearing it, but he found my reaction hysterical. :D

GraceFox · 07/12/2014 20:08

Roisin I still wonder what ds1 actually wore to his interview this time last year. to say he dresses down is an understatement. Some of his friends hinted it may have been cheapo tracky bottoms from Sports Direct. I will never know. I suppose he's the opposite of Ball Gown Girl someone mentioned.

Anyhow... he's just home from his first term at Oxford Hmm

AtiaoftheJulii · 07/12/2014 21:13

I thought we were ok here re interview outfits, but dd just realised that if she's still there on Friday (has been told Tue-Fri), then that's the Save the Children Christmas jumper day - she would have worn one to school, but isn't sure whether that would be a step too far for an interview! I'm wondering if I can buy her a tasteful/subdued jumper in town tomorrow, or whether that's an oxymoron Grin

AtiaoftheJulii · 07/12/2014 21:16

Hope your dc's get in touch soon!

Littleham · 07/12/2014 21:28

Shopping trip today, as she had 'nothing to wear for the interview'. When I investigated, she turned out to be perfectly correct. Panic shop on a Sunday in December. Not the best timing.... Xmas Blush

Roisin · 07/12/2014 21:30

I've had 3 texts, he seems quite upbeat, happy and relaxed. Dinner great, room very nice, met lots of co-applicants for his course. He has his times and venues for his two interviews (one at a second college). All good.

webwiz · 07/12/2014 21:31

We did talk about DS wearing his christmas jumper to the interviews, we thought he could switch the flashing lights on as a distraction if things weren't going well Smile

webwiz · 07/12/2014 21:34

That sounds good Roisin you can relax a little now

MadameJosephine · 07/12/2014 21:40

Best of luck everyone who has interviews coming up and unmumsnetty hugs to all their mums! Im glad DS had his early and so its all overwith now. We are expecting it to be bad news in january and so anything else will be a lovely surprise. Apparently he's always preferred the course at imperial anyway :)

Raidne · 07/12/2014 21:43

Glad to hear he is okay, Roisin.

Can't believe we still have a week to wait. I wish it was all over.

AtiaoftheJulii · 07/12/2014 21:45

Lol webwiz !

PD6966 · 07/12/2014 23:37

Dropped DS off at GZ and he allowed me to give him a quick squeeze. Have since had word of en suite bedroom, really nice food, 'pretty normal people, some nerdy and interviews only scheduled for Tuesday! Caught the eye of another mum, dropping off her DD, just long enough to see that she felt the same as me; proud and slightly emotional. Huge, heartfelt wishes to all x

welshpixie · 08/12/2014 05:57

Good luck to all DCs for their interviews today. Heard from DD last night, there was a lovely little message left in her room from the undergraduate who has moved out. She is full of a cold so was going to get a sandwich for tea and then go to bed early. She was so excited despite the cold and proud of herself getting there on her own. It is going to be a long day today Xmas Smile
