what grades did unis actually accept last year?

Entry requirements seem high as we look. Was told last year many unis
accepted students on to courses with lower grades than were originally offered.

What have you heard?

Particularly interested in Engineering

In Science I heard of a B (Bio), B (Chem), B offer accepting a B (Bio), C (Chem) with A* and B in another two facilitating subjects.

little confused : BCBA*? At what uni?

One my daughters (not this year) had an AAB offer and got AAC (the disaster was in physics I think it was or chemistry) and still got her place.

A friend's daughter got a place at Warwick through clearing with BBB.

There are lots of stories of people still getting in with a missed grade but it doesn't always happen and there seems to be no way whatsoever of working out the reasoning behind why some do and some don't.
Ds needed 3 Bs two of those had to be in Bio and Chemistry. He got A* B for them and a C in his other subject and after a horrendous wait on results day was rejected. (His B was very close to the A but he was told even with a remark and if it went up he still wouldn't get the place so he didn't bother)
Ds gf on the other hand needed A*AA got AAB and still got her place. Ds although disappointed had an unconditional for his insurance where he is very happy . There are many reasons why a dropped grade may be accepted but on a course with high demand for places at some Unis should never be relied on.

DS had an offer that required 240 UCAS points. He got 220 and the offer was confirmed.

It's a couple of years ago now, the first with the new fees, but alot of my DC's friends missed their grade offers and all got in with lower grades.

It's not guaranteed, of course but it does happen.

Every year, some people will get let into uni having missed their offers by a grade or two- however, it's not a good idea to rely on this, as equally people who miss their grades do get rejected every year too. Over the last few years, what has happened on results day has changed a lot, so it's not a good idea to rely on experiences e.g. from last year to predict what happens this year. It will also possibly depend on how well everyone else does- if a uni can afford to reject people who have missed their offers they probably will.

If you're taking a risk with your firm place (e.g. they're asking for AAA, you're expecting AAB-ABB) you do need a good insurance that you're happy to go to, or at least a good back up plan.

When applying, you do need to be realistic as well- it's usual to apply to 1-2 "aspirational" choices (i.e. asking for higher grades than you're predicted/have) 2 safe choices asking for around the grades you're predicted, and 1-2 back up choices which could be used as an insurance. So, if you were predicted ABB and thought you'd get around AAB, you could go for one AAA choice, one AAB choice, two ABB choices and one BBB choice or similar.
