What are the best student discounts for students with young families?

I know about the council tax, am inordinately excited about getting a YP Railcard, and have trawled through the NUS / University site and the "graduate extra" bit too. Unfortunately I no longer think that I can justify any spending on the huge clothes discount section. Nor acting on the wanderlust that cheap flights to exotic places brings.

So, for those of you who are students (I'll be a post grad, but I assume that doesn't matter if I'm enrolled as a full time student) what are the best and more relevant student discounts that you've come across (apart from the dental, prescriptions, railcard, council tax)? I've found:
40% off at Pizza Express / Ask
10% off a weekly food shop at the Co-op
Cheap YHA membership
Cheap newspaper /periodical subscriptions
10% off at super drug
Various 50% off deals for legoland etc too.

Between 5 & 10% of at Amazon, dependent on items bought & have to be from Amazon not a 'dealer'. Rymans for stationery 15%, clothing ones are useful for your kids clothes

The 10% off at co op is on everything by the way not just a full shop but it is only in term time. Even wine :)

I like spotify and it is half price with nus extra.

If you join unidays they sometimes have extra discounts on there. Urban outfitters is one I use as they still offer the discount on sale stock and is great for stocking up on presents.

Cinema discounts are usually good, my local independent does £5 tickets at any time for students.

This is my specialist subject :)

Dominos - lots of leaflets with student offers through the doors of student areas so get a uni mate to give you it if you don't live in student land!

H and m usually 20% for one week of term - usually loan paying week.

Cinema museums etc!

Lots of clothes places, dp top shop new look river Island Etc if any of those interest you.

I ask everywhere, often museums or venues if they do t do it offer you the ticket for senior price!
Shops often don't advertise it either!

Many cafés near your uni will do it to.

Oh and sometimes they want an nude card instead of student. I have never been refused with just a student card.

Unfortunately all of the student benefits will need to go towards exciting things such as toddler vests and winter shoes if I can find them stores away the H&M info for, ahem, reference . Thanks so much though and for the tip about the co-op. It seems it will work in my local co-op! Do you just present your card at the till?

No-one has told my local co-op that it's term time only, I've been using it all summer, they just swipe my NUS extra card and the till automatically takes 10% off.

how does one go about getting the council tax discount? is it 25%? does it matter that dh is working?

10% off at Peacocks is what you need for children's clothes, I buy a lot of my DCs things there. Just get in the habit of asking wherever you go, I've had mine nearly a year and it's paid for itself over and over.

If you've got a smartphone there's an NUS extra app, tells you where you can get discounts from where you are standing, I sometimes check it while I'm queueing in shops.

I'm using mine mainly in Co-op (I've used it all summer no problem).
I'm on holiday at the moment and have got cheaper entry a few times.

Can't get student railcard until I start as I need a letter from Uni .

10% at Hobbycraft - good for project stuff.

I feel cheated now by my local co op now. They are super strict on it not being over the summer.

I live in a studenty city and lots of the eating places do student discounts you just have to ask.

Dita Fulltime students are exempt from Council Tax. So if you were the only person in the household eligible for CT before, you don't pay anything. If your DH is the only other person eligible for CT in your household, I believe he would be classed as a single occupier whilst you are a student. If you phone your council they can explain/sort it out. I've always found mine to be helpful, though I do live in a city with a few unis!

Student Beans always used to be good for finding discounts.

My local co-OP refuse to do discount at all. They reckon its only some co-ops.

Blackwells, if you have one near you, usually do a big discount one week near the start of term (though depending on subject, amazon second hand is sometimes cheaper anyway).

great- I'll download that app in anticipation! Great tips for the clothes- I feel a big winter clothes shop coming on as soon as I get my card. Ahhh, Blackwells. I LOVE that place. Sadly there isn't one within striking distance of me; however, there is one where my parents are, so I feel a trip to see the grandparents might be in order.

Field and trek do discount if you want proper winter gear like I stocked up on last year!
