Books on the insane combination of academic careers and motherhood

Are there any? Would it be worth writing a book on the sheer absurdities of thinking about the relevance of Taussig's theory of mimesis to early-modern India while forcing encouranging a three-year-old to eat his weetabix two seconds before we HAVE to leave for nursery if I have any chance of getting to my department meeting on time?

I was dreaming up titles while in the bath with DS and assorted plastic tat (only way to get him to wash his blasted hair).

How about:

"Bathing with pirates: the poetics and politics of academic motherhood"

All suggestions of the "three pretentious words: the real title of the book" variety welcome!

Have you read Venitha Pillay (2007) Academic Mothers. Stoke-on-Trent: Institute of Education Press.

It is based on research in South Africa, but I really identified with a lot of it.

I have read it, yes; like others of its ilk I found it rather long on theory (though nowhere near as much as the more recent Mothers in Academia by Castaneda and Igro, which takes itself so seriously it hurts). I wish there were something funnier and more practical.

I know what you mean about being theoretical.

But I guess no one has the time to write something funny alongside their REF (or international equivalent) publications.
