Any trainee psychotherapists out there?

I'm about to start my two years pre-clinical leading to the clinical doctorate in child and adolescent psychotherapy. I absolutely can't wait! But... I have two daughters aged 2 and 4, who will start nursery/school for the first time in September. How is it juggling this kind of training with family life? I feel fairly apprehensive about balancing these roles, probably because I have been a full time SAHM for the last few years, and they have been at home with me full time too, so a major shift for everyone. Perhaps it is just nerves before the change?

Any thoughts? Pearls of wisdom?

Hello! This is very old, but I'm wondering if you did this and how it all went? How was it balancing the training with family life?

I hope that you got the advice you were looking for in the end. It is very hard to find anyone talking about their experience of this pathway.

I am in a similar position. I have 2 small children, 8 months and 3 years. I deferred entry onto one of the preclinical courses because I wanted to get pregnant.

Was it easy enough to get on the doctorate and find a placement after the preclinical course? As interesting as the preclinical course sounds I worry about committing to it but then not getting onto the doctorate!

I would love to hear how you found it. If you still look at Mumsnet!
