Football Scholarship in the USA

Dd is 16 and is currently revising for her exams and has a place at college for A levels.

She absolutely loves football and has mentioned scholarships in the USA. Apparently ladies football is "on the up" over there.

She plays in a local team and in addition she referees and coaches in her spare time.

I'd be interested if anyone has any experience or knowledge of this.

Thanks

Have a look at the Fulbright Commission website and sign up for email alerts. Then go along to one of the US university fairs if you can, where you will get lots of advice and information.

You might want to think about signing up with an agent who could help navigate the US system - you would have to pay them of course, and they're not completely necessary. If you do use an agent, find one who has placed girls like her already.

An athletics coach from unis she is interested in would want to assess her, so her level of football ability is vital.

And she would have to sit the US college entry exams which are held all over the UK. You can buy the books to prepare for these online, and she may need extra tutoring - but her school might be able to do that.

The fairs are held in the UK by the way - mainly London I think.

DS got a place on this.
You apply around the December of Year 12.
He decided US study wasn't for him but these courses are fantastic.

Apologies if I am stating the obvious, but do remember when searching US sites that 'football scholarships' mean American football and so you need to search instead for 'soccer'.

You still have time to get an idea of what is involved and start planning if you feel this is a good idea, but you will need to set started soon.

Here is an idea of one particular programme -- at Villanova Scroll down to the bottom and you will find some useful links that may give you a taste of the world of collegiate sports in the US.

An idea of an uber competitive programme -- UCLA Note the academic requirements.
