Moving to St Albans or Harpenden - good secondary schools?

Hi we have been living in Singapore for three years as expats, we are now returning to the UK and planning on living in St Albans/Harpenden area. Could you recommend both Scondary and Primary schools? Any to avoid?

How old are your children and what sex? Do you want state (free of charge) schools? Or fee paying schools? Do you want singe sex schools or cooed?
