OU certificate in higher education

Should I go for it? In business and management.

Am bored in life, work 30 hrs(35 in reality) as an office manager for a small business & have DS (14) and dp.

All I do is work, housework and spend time watching crap tele & lurking on mums net.

Think I can commit to the study time for 1 unit at a time, on paper it works

Don't have any other commitments, hobbies etc & hard to admit but a get a little jealous of DS & dp's extra activities as all my 'spare' time is spent looking at household tasks.

I need something for me, is this it? I didn't finish formal ed. and got to where I am on vocational courses, s

So a more academic qual is attractive to me for career progression.

Writing it out its obvious I should do it, but I'm scared to commit, hence the post.

What have you got to lose? It's only one module at a time, and my understanding (do check - am not very familiar with the OU) is that you only pay for one module at a time, so the cost is relatively low, and if you were to decide that it wasn't for you, what would actually happen? No one is going to come around to your house and tell you off.

To get a student finance loan to cover the fees I need to commit to a qualification which is 4 units, which I think I am up for, but what if?

Go for it you'll enjoy the challenge! I'm nearly at the end of my OU degree and although it's hard going sometimes (should be working on an assignment at the mo!) it's great to do something for yourself that has nothing to do with family or housework.
Also you may have to sign up to the qualification to get a loan, but no-one's going to make you do more than one module if you don't want to carry on - but I bet you will.

You shouldn't have to commit before you get the loan.

I registered my interest in my course last year, applied for the student loan and then committed to the course once I'd got confirmation of the loan.
