Student looking for work in London - any advice?

Friend of my DCs heading for London and in need of a job. Any advice from those with children at London universities on how to find work? Male and no younger siblings so not sure if they'd be much use at babysitting. I dont know them but believe they've had some sort of job during 6th form.

Most of the major supermarkets have jobs online, he could look there for shiftwork.

Harrods take on Saturday staff who then get chance of extra hours at Christmas, the sales and in the summer.

The easiest job to get is with big events/catering companies. They don't need any experience and get about half hours training! They are emailed the available shifts, put their name down and if they get on they just turn up at the venue. Shifts are in evenings or day. Pay about £7ph. Loads of Sons friends have done this. I know one called Inn and Out and another called Bubble catering, but google for info. You can be very flexible re how many shifts you want

try the student union at the uni - ds's place are already advertising vacancies

Easiest jobs are bar work and retail. Both flexible and sit around uni. The more local the better

thanks - he's another med student so not likely to have time in the week and the supermarkets seem to want that. Like the events/catering idea, pretty sure he wouldn't think of that.

Gumtree has a jobs page, I think quite a few students use it.

Just thought of something else, their student's union or the UoL students union often have jobs in the reception/bar and because the people who work there are generally students the managers know what students have to juggle and are fairly sympathetic in terms of shifts etc

Thank you all. I've already pulled up a couple of things from Gumtree and found the recruitment pages for MollyBerry's suggestions. Apparently he worked in a shop so should be able to get some reference and obviously he'll be CRB checked. I expect the student union jobs are in great demand. but he'll probably try for those.
