Random question re degrees --because I am too lazy today to do the research myself--

Just wondering what the route is to sit on a degree course, as a mature student

Is it along the lines of a few gases, a few a levels, and then to degree

Sorry - am totally ignorant on this topic. Thanks in advance for your help.

Gases? I mean gcse's

you don't necessarily need GCSEs/ A levels but you will need some kind of course that shows you can cope with academic study. For mature students experience does count towards your application but they do want to see some recent qualifications too - good luck

Lots of mature students take an Access to HE diploma. AFAIK most FE colleges run it.

As well as Access courses, we will except OU modules as evidence of recent study.

Your best bet is to work out what you want to study at uni, and which uni, then email the admissions tutor and ask.

It might be worth mentioning that prior to the changes last year, OU modules were really popular because they were quite heavily subsidised.

Now they are on the same fee structure as most universities, which means you can apply for a student loan to fund them, but you will use some of the funding you are entitled too. Most people are limited to a certain amount of funding, so it's worth checking before you choose - a lot of people this year have been caught out by this.

To show you will ultimately be capable of doing a degree course, it might actually be an idea to do some of the research yourself after all. It's not that hard.
