Hi all, I am really thinking about doing the BA social work, once qualified, is it possible to job share or do a part time role ? Or is it a 40 hour week profession ?

Im doing the degree just finished first year. As far as Im aware there are Pt jobs, not so sure about job share though TBH as mostly individual case loads, however there are some benifits to case shares that are being recognised, so maybe there are job sagare options. also you may find that many places would encourage remote working with regular contact with office as to be honest most sw work well and above their office hours with court reports and deadlines etc.

I am a little concerned about getting a job when I qualify though due to cuts etc, but you are not limited to LA case work there are lots of avenues availible.

If i where you I would look at the guardian social care jobs, basw jobs local council or LA recruitment etc to gain an idea of what roles are about. I would certanly recomend the degree despite recent changes and uncertanty.

My LA has just advertised for adult SW's 4 FT and 3PT (21-18.5hrs) all Permanent and 3FT Fixed contract.

Yes it is possible

Thanks for that wiggly, I still feel really drawn to it and if part time is a possibility, then I am going to do it.

i work as an admin in social work team for East sussex county council. most of the social workers work full time (37 hours) some work 4 day week. The hours are varied as often they are required to do early evening visits. They also work from home or at other establishments so hours are flexiable. haven't heard of social workers job sharing and part time are few and far between as duty social worker will have to cover your cases in your absence.

I work for a large inner city LA as a sw and there are loads of pt jobs available. Lots doing two and half days a week, others do four days a week.
