Hi,

I would like to do a Midwifery degree in the not too distant future, I can't do an access course and I can't afford to pay out for a distance learning qualification as we're too skint.

I've done a degree before, and I do have a biology AS but the uni I've spoken to want a biology qualification. How can I go about this?

Thanks for any help. Smile

Isn't biology AS a qualification?

Do you realise you might not get any help with a bursary / student loan as you already have a degree.

That doesn't apply to Nhs qualifications, so funding is still possible.

Some universities offer a foundation year for people who have the personal attributes for the course, but do not meet their academic specifications. Usually passing the foundation year leads to guaranteed access on the degree course. Have you checked out this option with your university of choice?

Are you on benefits? If so your local college may do evening classes for a-levels that could be free or reduced cost for you

(I know this was a while ago, but this might be useful.)

I was at an open day at Brookes yesterday, looking at adult nursing, and spoke to an admissions tutor. As soon as I explained my situation (similar to yours but without the AS), he said to do the OU course SK277, human biology. It's 30 points.

Was also advised to take that course. OU modules are £££ though and op said wanted to do as cheaply as poss. And I may be wrong but I thought I read that sk277 was being discontinued in the future? I also have the same aspiration as, you op once the dcs a bit older - just don't have the time I need to devote to the volunteering atm, never mind even trying to get on a course. Still my dream though- well health visiting eventually Smile
