I'm doing an apprenticeship next year, can I get a student loan?

I'm 25 and am going to be an apprenticeship next year in Plumbing, the NMW for an apprentice in their first year is £2.60 an hour, my course is going to be £2k and I will have to spend about £70 a week in petrol to get to and from my apprenticeship..

Luckily DS will just be starting school then so I will only have minimal childcare costs but I will only be earning just over £70 a week for the 4 days I will be working. I really want to do this, it will give me and DS a better life, but I have no idea how I'm going to afford it. Is there any way I can get a student loan to help me to get through it?

Don't know about loans but you'd get TC wouldn't you?

Talk to the benefits agency, you should get income support, maybe tax credits and housing benefit.

Good luck with the course
