Oxford student housing

Where is the best place to find a pleasant student house in Oxford: Large light rooms, large kitchen, heating which works, clean functional showers, period property, safe neighbourhood, walking/cycling distance to Parks Road. How much would normally be paid? Or is anything decent college owned?

Just resurrecting this to ask if anyone has experience of the timescales for signing student house contracts? DD and friends found their house in November but still haven't signed the contract.

Draft guarantee had to be back at the Agent by 20th December; contract was signed in early Jan.

harbingerofdoom · 29/02/2012 21:36

Contracts and guarantees were handed in as soon as after Christmas as we don't trust the mail. Handed in person.
Then she forgot!

If Funny is still around.... I'm interested in ideas of changing tutors.

This is no option for lots/scientists!

Yellowtip · 01/03/2012 07:40

harbinger, what do you mean?

harbingerofdoom · 02/03/2012 18:47

To be handed in to the estate agents in person. Forgot to do so for about three weeks.

With regards the tutors DD suddenly found herself without a 'peripheral' tutor very suddenly. Not a college tutor but one that taught a subject essential to her subject.

Yellowtip · 02/03/2012 19:20

Yes, sounds just like DD2. I meant about the tutors. That's bad, very. Why? Surely someone else was wheeled in?

harbingerofdoom · 02/03/2012 20:31

It made the national press-enough said.
I think some substitute has been found but it does leave them a bit Confused

Hello harbinger I'm still around (just come out of hosp) Whats the story with the tutors?

funny hope you're going to be okay and that you're recovering well. You must be tired out (if kept in! so noisy isn't it).
DD is doing a science subject and a tutor was suddenly unavailable. I think the gap has been 'plugged' but.....
You made it sound as if certain humanities students could choose their tutors by going to different colleges. May have got the wrong end of the stick!
I just think that science undergrads don't have that flexibility.

funnyperson · 08/03/2012 02:27

harbinger as far as I know in the second and subsequent years there is flexibility as to some topics, and according to the interest of the student they can choose to study with whichever tutor has an interest in their topic of choice at whatever college.
