UK MNers: Which American universities and colleges can you name?

DH, who is an American, and I have had a long-running disagreementconversation about the "name-recognition" of American universities and colleges.
Leaving aside the astronomical cost of American higher education and whether or not "name-recognition" is important, I am curious if any Mners can name off-the-top of their heads, ie, without consulting Professor Google, which are the top American universities? Also American colleges, known there as Liberal Arts Colleges.
So, any MNer with a moment to spare...please share your knowlege!

and there'd be the local ones like 'Utah State University', I'm thinking 'Penn State' but that might be a prison...

TBH I have a very tenuous grasp on the US education system at the best of times

Oh sorry, didn't answer that properly - the five I've named are fairly high brow ones I think (Harvard, Yale and Princeton are posh aka Ivy League I think. Stanford's well thought of but not sure if it's the same level)

Liberal Arts Colleges - I know I'd recognise names of a few, but can't think of any of the top of my head.

EverythinginMiniature. Some years ago, when our eldest DS got his place at Oxford, my BIL from US queried:"Oxford...so is that in London?" I wanted to say "What, have you never watched Inspector Morse?" Talk about bursting my bubble...ah, we all live in our own small worlds I guess.

My friend's cousin from Boston came to the Edinburgh Festival with us and was blown away by hearing people say 'Aye' for yes. He thought it 'had been invented by Star Trek'.

Looks like most I know are named above (but never heard of rutgers or redland) ... but I think MNer's favourite US university is Hawaii!
