and it's proving impossible! I've checked out my local colleges. Is there some sort of global data base that i can check do you know?

I've found a few suitable courses, and one even especially for women, but they are either evenings or weekends and I would really like school time.

TIA

Are you currently unemployed? The job centre sometimes runs/refers to courses like this. Generally you have to have been long term unemployed though.

I investigated this, mckenzie. The thing is that courses are generally run in schools/colleges and of course they are occupied during the day by full-time 16-18 year old students.

The only day-time short/part-time courses were those aimed at pensioners such as tracing family trees and watercolour painting.

All very annoying.
