I am considering doing a counselling course at college in september if i can save enough.
Has anyone had experience of a counselling course/qualification?
I did an AS level in 2000 and have only completed NVQ 2 since then.Am i setting myself up for a fall? is my brain too shrivelled to even consider?

Hello

I have completed a counselling concepts course and counselling skills coure. The first was a few weeks long the latter a whole year. I was going on to continue the next 2 year diploma but stopped to have another child.

I found it very interesting. It is hard work and very thought provoking.

As for a career option it is not cheap to train (both in time and money) as you need to pay for your own counselling and sometimes supervision depending on placements. It also is many years to gain accreditation.

Personally I would suggest an introductory course as it is not for everyone and you will get to test the waters(and your brain cells!) and see what you think.

Hi ChumbleSmile
Thanks for posting
Yes i did consider doing an introduction to counselling but unfortunately my local college won't be offering it this year. I am really trying to rack my brains as to what exactly i would like to study ,and counselling did appeal to me.I want to gain some sort of training or qualification.I am not good at decisions lol

I've done several distance learning counselling courses through NEC (National Extension College). I did a very basic Introduction to Counselling skills course a few years ago and have now almost finished their Developing counselling skills course.

It was a very long time since I'd done any studying but I didn't find it too hard to get back into it.
