...to do an TA NVQ?

I used to be a parent helper at my sons old school but he has only been at his new one since November last year.

How would I go about asking if I can have a placement there? By letter/in person/via e mail??

The couse doesnt start til september so i have a while to sort it out....

Approach the school secretary in person as top whether they have a volunteer scheme and hwo you would apply to. Also don't rule out other schools in the area. By the time they've done a CRB check it will be the summer anyway.

I wouldn't ask the secretary, I'd ask the head as they're the one with power. (I have made about a dozen phone calls about this and got some interest - and a placement but it was not at a school in the end but a family centre).

Phone up the school at a time when it is not really busy for heads. Say "Good morning, it is Jane Jones her to speak with (head teacher's name - which you found on internet)" Secretary says "can I ask what it is about" you say "Yes, I am a student in XYZ and I would like to talk to 'head' about offering my time as part of a voluntary placement" If they say the heads busy ask when would be a good time to call back, or ask if they can put a note on the head's desk saying Jane Jones called. maybe they will tell you a better time to call back - if you ask.

Make sure you focus on what the school will get out of it. It is in their interests!

it worked for me...
