Does anyone know about transferring to UK uni from US?

My American friend is doing the second year of his 4 year degree in the UK, as arranged by his American university. He loves it here, and would like to transfer to a UK university.

Does anyone know how this might work?

I assume he would need a student visa unless he already has the right to be here, plus paying oversea's student fee rate to the UK university (probably cheaper than what he has to pay to the American one). He'd also have to check whether he could transfer credits to the UK university. Can't he ask his tutor?

He won't be at uni till next week. We were just seeing what we could find out on the interweb.

The thing he's wondering about most is how the credits bit works- is this something universities do fairly often?
