does this baby chair exist?

basically im looking for some sort of low level baby chair for a big 10 month old (22lbs ish). He has been using a rocking baby chair thing, but its limit is 18lbs and i broke it today cleaning it. I know he shouldnt have been in it anyway.. but where do people put their babies when they are in the kitchen? he has a highchair, but its in the dining room, and i dont much fancy dragging it back and forth a few times a day. He used to just sit in his little chair all strapped in and play with his toys while i did dishes/cooked etc.

so essentially what i am asking, after a failed hunt online and in mothercare etc, is there such a chair thats like a baby bouncer but doesnt bounce and that is designed for older babies, that has a harness to strap him in and wont tip over when he leans? please let there be. oh also, not like crazy expensive.... any help would be awesome!

Or how about a blanket on the floor with cushions all around with his toys? One of those play-ring thingies?

What about an Ikea Antilop high chair, it's cheap sturdy, light if you do want to move it around and you can get a table for it to play on?

I have one it is a great seat I bought it for having visitors one Christmas and actually when we moved house and only had room for one hightchair I dumped the big one and kept this one.
I take it all around the house and if you want to move it out the road the legs pop off easily.

I've alwayst let my babies roam around the kitchen. We always have a plastics-only cupboard for exploring, plus a toybox within reach. If I want DD out of the way I occasionally use a sling or put her in a folding highchair, but not very often.

Hmm, the antilop thing looks cool, its a bit high but not so expensive it would be a waste.

Cant use a pushchair as it takes up too much room in the kitchen, quite small kitchen with units down both sides, and I dont like him eating in the pushchair coz it cost bloody loads!! He usually has his breakfast in the kitchen in the little chair..

His legs are to chunky for a Bumbo, although that would be effing perfect otherwise! small and low...

And he has only just mastered sitting up, he occasionally falls back, and we have slate tiles on the floor which would hurt like hell if he fell on them.

Not being obstructive, lol, just need to keep him still and out of the way!! Thats the challenge though hey!

Yes, there is one - I've got it tho and DD won't sit in it for more than about 3 seconds!

I would get the Ikea high chair. I got one for my mum's house when we visit and I love it.

it looks very, erm, exciting! lol im not a fan of bright colours (i know thats mean coz babies love them...)

Thinking about the ikea chair quite seriously! although i do wish they just made a little tiny armchair with a 5 point harness in it!

what's about a doorway bouncer? we had one in the kitchen doorway, DS adored it. Wish I could still restrain him in it now...

i thought babies couldnt go in door bouncers when they were big? maybe im not well informed. door bouncers look scary as hell to me! lol

The Antilop is fab and although it is table high the age he is at now it will be nice for him to be up high see what you are doing and chat easily. DS2 is 11 months and it is ideal for him since he is screeching babbling back a lot now. We have a Bumbo and honestly would be useless for what you want as he will be climbing out of it on his own soon before he has the ability to do it safely.

Know what you mean about the small kitchen the house we are now in has a much smaller kitchen and although we too have the plastics drawer/cupboard when I am cooking it is just too small to have him roaming safely.

You will struggle to get a stylish toddler chair. They aren't designed to be decorative.

You could get a Bloom high chair. They are as close to stylish as you will find.

We have a small kitchen and the 'main' highchair in the dining room (not that we actually ever use it though...) Dd has her breakfast and lunch in the kitchen and we use the Ikea antilop chair in there. It's brilliant. We don't have to lug the wooden chair backwards and forwards between rooms and tbh dd has always sat better in the Ikea one. She's 18 months now, but the other day I was making scones and she was sitting in it stirring some flour and water, using the pastry cutters happy as anything. Can't recommend them highly enough.

awesome, that does sound like the best way, and i know what emsyj is saying about stylish toddler chairs...

i guess even if he doesnt like it its not a waste of money coz its well cheap, and if he does like it and i end up moving (which i am soon) i can keep it at my mums for a spare. sorted, nice one ppl!!

Can I gently suggest you lay to rest your desire to keep the pushchair clean? It will get dirty sooner or later. If it's not food it'll be mud/ sand/ other muck which kids love playing in. And surely when he was on milk alone he must've done leaky poos into the pram!

Most pushchairs can be hoovered/ cleaned fairly easily, so if the messiness upsets you, you can always give it a wipe.

So that way you can use the buggy in the kitchen and save money! Grin

nooooooooo lol i am in love with my pushchair!!! he is not allowed to mess it up!! lol its a concord neo and its beautiful and clean. everyone thinks i am mad coz i wont allow him to even drink a bottle in it...

We have the antilop which is the perfect height for restraining DD while she's distracted with food watching me in the kitchen. However, I've been intrigued by this sort of thing which they have at the sure start centres by me. It's low down and you can take the tray off for when they can use it as a real seat.

Not that I'd ever spend that much on it, but I have been looking at it for a while now.

that is lush! lol the perfect thing, except the price lol. id rather drag the highchair back and forth than spend that much on a teeny chair.

Here's a thought - could you cut down the legs of the antilop so it is the height you require. I'm sure a decent hacksaw would do the job. Make sure you cut of the bottom so the legs still click in - they are removable so you can actually put the seat in the dishwasher, or transport it easily.

Like you say the seat is so cheap it might be worth the gamble!

Yup, you are a bit mad! Grin I mean that in a nice way! Is he your first baby? I really don't mean that patronisingly, by the way. Don't forget that it is his pushchair, not yours...Grin

I also do the 'convenient meals in the kitchen' thing - DD has her lunch on this while I do chores, and we have another highchair at the dining table. Tis a bit pricey - think I paid £55 on ebay. But it's lovely and really handy - folds nicely for easy storage.

The legs pop off the Ikea high chair if you were minded to put it away.

My pushchairs are clean. I don't allow DD to eat or do messy things in them. I am not a particularly tidy or house proud person, but grubby pushchairs make my flesh crawl for some reason. I have a real hangup about it. So you can keep your pushchair clean, it's perfectly possible.

TBH, now that DD is mobile, I tend to just let her wear herself out cruising around the kitchen. I'm right there, so she can't get in that much trouble. Ineeda - a plastics cupboard! Grin When we move, I am so having one of those!
