I have an appointment with the Senco tomorrow for G&T ds with possible aspergers. What should it go like? What do I say?

In an attempt to help him with his social skills I have sought the help of a therapist (ds really has not had a good time), who has advised me to seek an educational psychologists assessment as he does not think ds's needs are being met in any way at school. Ds is an incredibly bright boy yet has problems at play time or other unstructured activity/lacks empathy. How's best to handle this?
Ds also has very firm ideas on how children should be treated (as an equal to adults as they are just as worthy), how well will this go down do you think? How's best to handle this?

Pressed 'send' before I'd finished. It may be worth reading this book to get some more ideas once you've seen the SENCO. Seeing the Ed Psych is next on our list of things to do. It was recommeded that we do by the Dev Psych we saw...DD has similar social issues to your DS. ASD was ruled out completely by our Dev Psych, yet 'gifted' was thrown into the written report rather a lot. We are waiting a bit longer before seeing an Ed Psych as we don't have any concerns about school yet.

Thankyou. She was really nice, she said that she thought that something was not quite right and is going to write a letter for the GP and put a support plan in place for him. I'm so happy someone's actually listened.

Glad to hear it went well, I hope you get some answers soon. It took 6months for DD to be seen be seen by the Dev Psych..I hope you get seen quicker!

Thanks. She said she'd do an action plan for him, chat to the head (who think's he's a snotty kid because of his strange use of language) and stick him on the G&T register so I'll see how it goes. You do get sick of asking teachers and heads whether he needs to get assessed, it's obvious there's a problem but the amount of times he's labelled as naughty is silly.

He sounds very like my ds. Good luck - sounds like you've made a good start anyway!

Yep getting there. I was referring to specialists that listen but thanks for offer. I actually know Derbyshire very well, mum used to work for the council as it is commutable. Spent a lovely afternoon watching the fish fight the ducks for ducky bread in the dales.
