I bought a £7.99 Waitrose chocolate cake. Scraped off the chocolate scrolls that identify it as a Waitrose bought cake. I then covered the top of the cake with Maltesers, Milky Bar Buttons and Cadbury's Milk Chocolate Buttons. I couldn't help but do this in a 'sehr' artistic way. Sort of chucking the confection at the cake and absolutely leaving things as they landed; apart from the odd Malteser and Button that had to be carefully re-positioned because it just didn't look right.

I am now celebrating with a glass of wine.

Is this G & T or genius?

Do you know that would really finish it off. The pre-school mums will talk about me gasp with artistic envy.

Pipe 'ceci n'est pas une maison de Swedes prepare gateaux' around the base? (apologies to French pedants, can't do accents and no idea whether cakes are feminine or masculine in French.)

Isn't Marcel Duchamp the one the toilet? Here www.the-artfile.com/ArtFile/artists/duchamp/toilet.htm

Probably more suitable for a ds party rather than a dd!!

Edam - That's a marvellous idea but only two of the 3 year olds present are bilingual. The other one speaks Russian, German and English but not French. Drat. I didn't think the finishing off would be so difficult.

I'll go to bed and listen to Schubert's unfinished symphony in a loop.

Does anyone have any ideas for my next piece? My own birthday is in a couple of weeks.

How about a scale model of the Houses of Parliament rendered in matchmakers?

Soph73 · 11/11/2008 15:28

Or the London Eye in Wagon Wheels?! Or am I not being clever enough?

Swedes · 11/11/2008 15:35

Thank you. Those are both marvellous ideas but I was hoping to move away from the chocolate confectionery oeuvre. I was thinking more along the lines of a Harribo Tryptique.

The Mona Lisa in Haribo - obviously with your face on it.

aBride · 11/11/2008 15:38

I definitely DESERVES a G & T, that's for sure.

IorekByrnison · 11/11/2008 16:25

Swedes, have you explored the possibilities of using hundreds and thousands to recreate the great pointilliste masterpieces? I was rather pleased with dd's "Bathers of Asnieres" birthday cake this year.

Threadworrm · 11/11/2008 18:30

We used jellybabies to recreate Anthony Gormley's Another Place.

IorekByrnison · 11/11/2008 19:39

What about something more scientific? We have had some modest successes in our house with our attempts to discover a feasible method of carbon capture, using just a sodastream and some trifle sponges.
