Sorry if this has been mentioned before. Both my kids were in NAGTY which I believe closed. Is the National Association for Gifted Children the new organisation? If so, are my children automatically registered with them?

Do they do summer courses, etc - I looked at the website and it didn't mention anything of interest in particular.

They used to like the message boards mainly, apart from the fact that the moderation was a bit over the top and it took ages for messages to appear.

The have started using the student room.co.uk instead and the moderation isn't quite as over the top.

NAGC is aimed more at primary age. The successor to NAGTY is YGT who don't run events themselves, but are supposed to co-ordinate events run by Centres of Excellence (i.e. the universities). IME the YGT website is appaling and doesn't have any proper info at all.
There are some summer schools run by the same Universities as did them before, btu you'll need to check out their own websites for info. However, the SS at Durham (which are the only ones I've personally seen info fro) are no longer subsidised unles you're on benefits, and I'm assuming that the others are the same.
There is/was an discussion forum set up by YGT for students, but I beleive it was not very widely used as the moderating and rules were rather draconian, compared to the old NAGTY one. DD1 never used either, so I'm only going on what I've heard form other parents.
What the govt wants to do now with G&T at secondary is "devolve" the enrichment to schools/Excellence Hubs, so if you're in a school which has good provision, then great; if not, then .

and yes, ex-NAGTY children are automatically registerd with YGT (and possibly for the discussion boards as well, but no experience of that).

I can recommend theschoolroom.co.uk to you for the message boards - they have been great for my 16 year old who has just finished her last GCSE Geography today - yippee! There are lots of kids on there doing the same thing as her and I think it has helped her to realise that she is not the only one doing exams.

DS has his final Geography paper this afternoon figroll - just waiting to hear how it has gone!

Apparently the Geoggers exam was harder than paper 1 - that is what my dd said. Although still okay.

I have to say figroll, I check the Studentroom website - I find more on that than I do from ds!!! He's then quite impressed when I say I hear ..... was on the paper!
