In year one (or this time last year) she was very behind at school, could not copy over words that were already written down for her. Couldn't read, Couldn't spell and couldn't write her name! Her idea of 'writting' was to draw squiggly lines really fast

I was concerned although the teachers weren't overly. She was only 5 at the time.

Anyway....

I have noticed since starting year 2 in september she is coming on in leaps and bounds but what shocked me to the core is that she sat and read a whole book to me last night from cover to cover

It was a little miss book so around 12 pages with around 10 sentences per page and small text. she also didn't delay between words!

She is also very good at writting with very few spelling mistakes inserting all these things ,"!? (she doesn't take after me!)

I am VERY impressed and so proud so just thought I would share it with you all

Wow well done - just goes to show that children develop at their own pace

What a lovely thread. Your DD is very lucky to have such a proud mum.

That's really lovely - I'd be extremely proud too!

Always have faith in their own abilities and pace, I think

Well i got her the book as it has mermaids in it (she is mermaid obsessed!) but she saw the rest of the collection on the back of the book and asked if she could have them too.

I said "yes, once you have finished that one"

That will teach me to open my big mouth lol
