Did anyone here have vanishing twin syndrome?

OP posts:
MonkeypuzzleClimber · 03/01/2023 08:50

Both Lydia Fairchild and Karen Keegan were found to be the genetic aunts not genetic mothers of their biological children, due to chimerism affecting their ovaries. Others have been found to have skin, organs and immune systems with two different DNA profiles. This understood to be due to fusing of two zygotes (fertilised eggs) rather than an absorb twin who has started developing though. Very rare, but will be under diagnosed as we don’t usually get different bits of our body’s DNA compared.

Obviously no scientific reasoning for this to be related to giftedness, but I’m sure the OP grieves the lost twin, and is maybe looking for way a part of them could’ve survived?

I’m sorry for loss anyone on here has experienced x

DS is 3 and yes did have a vanishing twin. He said his first words at nine months but that makes him the thicko of the family as everyone else said theirs between 4-7 mths & most of my DNs were able to have conversations by 9 mths.

God I love Mumsnet

My DS was subscribing to the Economist by 4 months, I blame the terrible sleep regression he had around then on the Brexit articles he was reading. I had to move him onto the New Yorker until he turned 1, I hope he can catch up.

Indian extended family. When kids have access to people who are interested in them and talk to them they talk early. It’s why traditional nuclear family based ASD signs can mean Indian /Irish kids are often underdiagnosed in the UK. Nearly all my DNs have ASD but except for one all spoke extremely early - & all had to leave the country to be diagnosed.

What an odd thread. My two DS had two heartbeats very early on then at sixteen weeks there was just one healthy heartbeat. They are both left handed (neither DH nor I am) and very average. DD is G&T, right handed and no sign of her having consumed anything.

pandwa · 03/01/2023 13:49

My dad is left handed, I am right handed, my son is left handed. His half sister is left handed and his paternal grandad is left handed, oh and his auntie is left handed ! Lots of lefties both sides of our families but no twins

@RunLolaRun102

I don't for a second believe that babies in your family are talking at 4 months and holding conversations at 9 months.

I am a surviving twin and I can categorically say that I am neither gifted nor talented.

I am quite gifted and talented, but I'm not sure what twins I got it off.
I'm having a think now.

RunLolaRun102's three-month-old will whip up a diagram on her Macbook.

One of my nephews was the surviving twin. He is absolutely not gifted or talented. Really nice kid, don't get me wrong, but in no way is he gifted.

Yuja · 04/01/2023 15:57

Well this is a strange thread indeed. I had a vanishing twin, but my DS is not gifted 😂 he is left handed...but so am I
