Do you have children who enjoy writing?

My Ds (11) loves writing stories. He is currently writing a novel, and has a publisher who is mentoring him and will publish his book when it's finished.
Just wondered if anyone else's children also writing a novel? Do they suffer from writers block? Do you motivate them to keep going, or leave them to it? Ds struggles sometimes trying to write the stuff he needs to do for school and then come back to writing his novel. I guess because he gets into one magical world and then struggles to swap back to the other one? I am rubbish at writing so can't help him, anyone got any hints?

Yes, DD is 13 and is v much the same. I try not to be involved at all, because thinking that your parents might read it is quite the way to stop writing happening in the first place (I say this as a published writer who has written a memoir...)

However, there are some great books out there, one written by Christopher Edge called How To Write Your Best Story Ever. The NaNoWriMo guide for kids is also awesome.

Also going to see authors talk is also very good, they often talk about how to write. If there's a good kids lit festival anywhere near you, see who is on.
