Teacher handed me an envelope this morning with my daughters name on ....

It says..

Dear Parent

As part of the provision for gifted and talented children your child has been invited to attend a dance master class.

The class will take place at the venues, dates adn times listed below.

Mon - different school god knows where 9am-12pm
Tues - another different school god knows wehre 9am-12pm
Wed - same school as monday 1-3.30pm
Thurs - same school as tuesday 1-3.30pm
Fri - another different school 9am - 12pm

A member of staff from school will take your child to the venue for the afternoon sessions but you will need to arrange for her to be collected at the end of the session. Please arrange for you child to be at the morning sessions for 9am.

Appropriate clothing and footwear and take their own water.

For your information the other children attending the class are :

so, she has been selected as one of three girls to attend this class.

Im very proud of her but don't know what FOR.

I cant imagine she has been selected for this as a result of her dance ability as she doesnt really enjoy it and bless her is a bit clumsy and not particularly physical.

She is however very, very bright so Im not sure if its her academic brightness that has earnt her the place on the course or what?

She is also pretty shy and Im not sure how she will feel about going to these different schools for the sessions but I hope she does as I think it is a lovely opportunity for her.

So......my question basically is, are they inferring that she is gifted and talented or do you think its just a random selection thing?

I jsut think they havent given me that much information here about why she has been selected, would be nice to know the areas that she is excelling in, if indeed that is the reason for her selection.

Forgot to say, she doesnt actually do any dancing at the moment apart from whatever they might be doing in PE.

She did start gymnastics at the school two weeks ago and seems to be enjoying it.

Schools pick the top 10? percentage of there pupils and class them as giften and talented, sometimes members of staff nominate and then back up is sort from other departments.

Sounds like a local extension activity for G+T kids,
Give the school a ring for some more info

I feel a bit embarassed talking to the school.

I dont want to ask the question so "Is she gifted and talented then" if this hasnt been the selection criteria. I dont know why I feel odd about it but I do!

I thought they would have told me prior to this if they considered her gifted and talented.

well you're not mentioning it
they did!
If it is on academic achievements (btw congrats on your dd doing so well) then you can ask how it has been decided. Don't feel self conscious it's your every right to know
If she was failing everything you'd want to know right?

then come and post on the G+T and incur cods mirth and mock
